Emotional Wellness

Lumen offers a variety of therapies that support all aspects of your Self.

As a trauma-aware practitioner I try to be sensitive to the various needs of my patients, knowing that all of us carry our own wounds in life. I believe that examining our own inner emotions and held beliefs allows us to become more aware of who we are, within these bodies.

Over time, we can begin to come into a more loving and healthy relationship with all aspects of our Self. This will allow us to flourish as individuals.

As more balanced individuals, we can begin to connect with and heal our community.

The various therapies at Lumen allow us to clear out our own burdens and find ourselves better integrated and whole. Living as a full expression of our unique Self, we find peace and harmony within. This work is never easy or comfortable, but it is an unknown journey of transformation. Let us shine our lights together.

This is a journey of loving all aspects of who we are.

Internal Family Systems

One of the key tools within Chinese medicine is to simply listen. When a patient enters the treatment room, I sit with them, I ask a few questions and most importantly — I listen. I listen to their story, I listen to their voice, I also listen for what they are not saying. I listen with my Heart and I seek what will best support them that day.

As a Licensed Acupuncturist, I am also trained in the foundations of Internal Family Systems, or IFS. I am “IFS-informed,” not officially certified under their training parameters. (This will come in time.)

Quoted from the IFS website:

“IFS is a transformative, evidence-based psychotherapy that helps people heal by accessing and loving their protective and wounded inner parts. We believe the mind is naturally multiple and that is a good thing. Just like members of a family, inner parts are forced from their valuable states into extreme roles within us. We also all have a core Self.

Self is in everyone. It can’t be damaged. It knows how to heal.

By helping people first access their Self and, from that core, come to understand and heal their parts, IFS creates inner and outer connectedness.” IFS website here.

I hold space for my patients, I listen and I help them find what is preventing them from flourishing. Through their own experiencing, they can find where they are stuck in life and their bodies know exactly what they need.

At your visit, we inquire: what aspect of Self is willing to let go, just a bit, so their true nature, or true Self can step in and be the captain of their ship.

We ask what is needed for their light to shine more brightly.

Guided Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing is a body-centered approach to treating PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) that, rather than focusing only on thoughts or emotions associated with a traumatic event, expands to include the natural bodily (somatic) responses.

It was first conceptualized by trauma therapist Dr. Peter Levine in the 1970s and in the years since it has come to be considered a leading-edge therapy for PTSD, with over 12,000 healing professionals trained.

Wang Feng Yi

5-Element Emotional Healing

I’ve been fascinated with the emotional connections within Chinese medicine for quite some time. One deep dive was a 2 week, silent qi gong retreat, learning about the 5-element emotional healing lineage of Wang Feng Yi. This intense time of looking inward, through the lense of xiao (filial piety / respect) and slowly clearing out the “garbage” inside us allowed for a gradual shift in how I see myself and how I relate to others in my life.

Through the rigors of qi gong, movement, breath, silence and introspection - great shifts are possible and we can more easily remain within our own Tian Xing (Heavenly Nature).

The ability of ourselves to remain present, in the heart and sit with our pains and sorrows is our strongest medicine. Through this practice of gratitude and compassion, we can begin to heal our selves and our community.
